Interesting Reads.......

Cash for Clunkers a Success?????

Well that all depends on who you ask. In efforts to boost the economy and car sales the government allowed car dealerships to allow consumers to trade their cars in for approx. $4500 when they may have been worth a lot less, and in turn the government will issue the dealership a check for the promotion. Great idea, huh?...Well there were a lot of cars sold around the country and the dealerships who participanted in the programed that ended 8-24-09, were overall very happy, but now they must wait for their money from the government which could be a while. Although the dealers are happy with the outcome, some of the general public thinks it was just another poor choice made by the President, and feel he is not managing the country correctly. I think a lot people are confused on the what the program was for...it was in place to help the seller and the consumer...ie, the economy. It was to encourage someone with an older vehicle to trade it in for a new more fuel efficient vehicle, which in turn would save on gas as well as repairs, which means less out of pocket on that. Also, with more cars sold this would call for more production at manufacturing plants, and decrease the layoff rate. Maybe its the people who didn't participate or didn't qualify that are mad. Maybe it's the anit-Obama people that are nagging, but as long as no one ask me to pay their car payment i'm good!

Nike Air Max LeBron VII
LeBron James showcased his new sneaker a few weeks ago in Akron, Ohio, and it looks to be pretty nice, not weird like some sneakers of the past. The shoe is set to hit stores October 24, retailing at approx $160.00, which is what would keep me from purchasing a pair, well that and i'm not a big fan of patent leather. The Nike Air Max LeBron VII is designed to deliver maximum comfort and stability. It features an innovative, basketball-specific Max Air airbag unit, a cushioning first for the company, and a Flywire engineered upper using higher tensile-strength cable than in previous performance basketball shoes.

Swine Flu hitting closer to home....

Down the road in Macon County (Tuskegee) the School District is closing their schools today at 1pm due to an increase in absent students having SWINE FLU or H1N1, which is what the government calls it . Normally the schools systems are recommending the students just stay home until better, but Macon County decided to take further precautions. The ADPH recommends closing schools only if 10% of the student body is absent, but it is still left up to each individual school system an rather to close the schools are not. No official numbers are out as to how many students have absent due to the outbreak, but not other school in the state have had any closures.

Legalized Gambling???

Well... if Ron Sparks, Democrat Governor candidate, has his way it could come to life. On Tuesday Sparks promised to build casino's in the state, with a Riverboat Casino in Selma being a place to begin the process. As we all know this has been the platform for several candidates in the past and due to area in which we live it has fell. Now i'm all for live and let live or whatever, but i've always wondered why people are so against casino's and lotteries. Is it because they have been told to be against it, is it religion, is it the fear of being seen gambling? What ever the reason, people are entitled to their opinion. If it's not affecting me directly(which no details have been released on funding it yet), then what's the big deal with someone spending their own money the way they want? Thoughts?

"Bo Knows Sneakers?"

To honor Alabama native, Bo Jackson, Nike has rolled out a number of retro releases inspired by the man who knows basically all sports. This Nike Sky Force Hi, originally released in 1984, comes with the “Tecmo Bo” theme. The upper features pixelate graphics that's a throwback to the video game, as well as a graphic of Bo Jackson on the tongue of the shoe. The shoes are available at select retailers for approx. $82. It looks to be a very cool sneaker, so I will definitely be on the lookout!
